WELCOME TO THE GEERINGHS!

Our first blog post Eeeeeeek!

If you don't know who we are, WELCOME! We're Megan and Michael. Currently writing this is Megan ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ (although I'm sure Michael will have plenty to say when he reads this later).

We're a couple living in Cape Town, South Africa, who somehow ended up working in two completely different industries that also happen to intertwine perfectly.

I work in social media and content creation, and Michael works in the film industry. On paper they're two different worlds, but in reality there's a lot of overlap, especially when you put two people together who love travelling, filming, taking photos and turning almost everything they do into some sort of creative project.

And that's basically how we ended up here!

WE'VE ACTUALLY BEEN DOING THIS FOR A WHILE ๐Ÿ‘€

As I'm writing this, I'm 23 and Michael is 25, which I realise may sound quite young to anyone reading something about us saying we've been doing this for years.

But we have.

We both started creating when we were teenagers, just in very different ways.

I actually posted my first ever โ€œvideoโ€ when I was in Grade 7. I would've been about 12 years old, it was filmed on my dad's GoPro, and I'm using the word video generously here ๐Ÿ˜‚

At the time I obviously had no idea that creating things would eventually become my job. I wasn't thinking about social media strategies, brand campaigns, deliverables or any of the things that are part of my life now. I just really liked making things and putting them on the internet.

And somehow, more than a decade later, I'm still doing exactly that.

Michael's story looks a little different. His world became film and television, working behind the camera and learning the technical side of filmmaking and production. So while I found my way into creating through social media, he found his through the film industry.

Eventually those two worlds collided.

And honestly, looking back at that terrible little GoPro video, it does sometimes feel like maybe this is what I was meant to be doing all along.

SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY, WE ALSO BECAME OBSESSED WITH TRAVELLING

We love going somewhere new. We love finding places people don't necessarily know about. We love hotels, road trips, the bush, wildlife, beaches, ridiculously pretty places and, obviously, taking far too many cameras with us to document all of it.

We currently live in Cape Town, which is a pretty incredible place to call home.

Although our ultimate dream is to become swallows and somehow split our lives between three places: Cape Town, the bush and Mauritius.

Very realistic. Very financially responsible.

If anyone reading this happens to have three houses they'd like to give us, I'm more than happy to take them off your hands.

Until then, Cape Town is home. ๐Ÿ˜‚

SO... WHAT ACTUALLY IS THE GEERINGHS?

This is the part that's slightly difficult to explain because The Geeringhs is a lot of things.

It is our business.

We create film and photography for brands, hotels, destinations and experiences. Sometimes we're behind the cameras, sometimes we're in front of them, and quite often we're doing both.

But I don't want The Geeringhs to only exist when somebody hires us.

It's also our creative outlet.

It's somewhere for us to document where we go, what we see and the things we create simply because we want to create them.

And hopefully, it's somewhere useful for other people too.

We want to share the places we find, hotels we stay at, things we think are actually worth doing, travel tips we learn along the way, wildlife encounters, photography, behind the scenes of our work and probably a fair amount of the stuff that doesn't go according to plan.

Basically, if we find something we love, we want you to know about it too.

AND NOW, APPARENTLY, WE HAVE A BLOG

I'm not entirely sure what this blog is going to look like yet.

There'll be travel guides. Hotel stays. South African road trips. Safari stories. Photography. Filmmaking. Places to eat. Things to do. Behind the scenes. And probably a few completely random things that don't fit neatly into any category.

But I think that's kind of the point.

The Geeringhs isn't supposed to fit perfectly into one box.

It's our work, our travels, our cameras, our recommendations, our experiences and a little corner of the internet where we can put all of it in one place.

So, this is officially blog post number one.

Who knows what this website will look like when we come back and read this in five or ten years. Hopefully we'll have visited a lot more places, told a lot more stories and somehow found space in our house for even more camera equipment.

And maybe we'll have those three houses.

For now, welcome to The Geeringhs.

We're really glad you found us!

Megan (and Michael, technically) ๐ŸคŽ
